Applying Metrics for Predictability

“When will it be done?” “How many items will I get in the next release?” “When will all of the items in the backlog be completed?” Those are the first questions your customers will ask you once you start working for them.

This hands-on workshop will give you the tools to answer those questions predictably. In this tutorial, attendees will learn what metrics are necessary for accurate forecasting, how to visualise those metrics in appropriate analytics, how to use those analytics to make reliable forecasts and understand risk, and, finally, how to make meaningful interventions for overall process improvement.

COURSE DETAILS

Make meaningful data-driven decisions, improve your ability to deliver value, and be more effective. After taking the course, you will have an opportunity to validate your understanding of Metrics for Predictability with our online assessment that evaluates your knowledge and provides guidance on areas to improve. Upon passing, you will receive the “Professional Applied Metrics” (PAM) certification and badge through Credly.

TOPICS

  • Flow Metrics: a deep dive into WIP, Cycle Time, and Throughput
  • Flow Analytics: Cumulative Flow Diagrams (CFDs), Scatterplots, and Monte Carlo
  • Quantifying risk and risk management: How to quantify risk and develop an overall risk profile
  • How to get started: what data to collect, how to mine your data, and how much data you need to begin

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After attending the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understanding of what metrics are required for predictability
  • Ability to make accurate forecasting for single items
  • Ability to make accurate forecasts for multiple items
  • Ability to communicate probability and delivery risk
  • Understanding how to achieve a stable process and why it matters

Applying Flow Metrics for Scrum

Is your team answering the same three questions at the Daily Scrum but not seeing any work move? Are you overcommitting to every sprint and stuck with endless carry-over? Do your retrospectives feel like the same conversations with little impact?

Then your Scrum Team needs Flow Metrics! In this course, you will learn how to leverage four simple data points to help your Scrum Team break the cycle of endless status and move towards informed decisions, accurate planning, and actionable improvements.

Applying Flow Metrics for Scrum will teach you not only how to identify how much work to plan but also how to accurately forecast when individual work will be done in a Scrum Team’s context. Predict delivery, deliver on time.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the course, learners will be able to:

  • Leverage metrics for accurate Sprint Planning
  • Use forecasts in Daily Scrum to organize around work in progress
  • Track progress toward critical dates and deliverables
  • Identify opportunities for measurable team improvements
  • Tools for Product Backlog Item refinement to increase flow

VALIDATED LEARNING

After taking the course, you will have an opportunity to validate that you understand core flow topics. We invite you to take an online assessment to evaluate your understanding and identify key improvement areas.

 Payment, fees & cancellation

       * Payment in advance is required; there are no exceptions. For example, all documentation requirements for invoice payment by the training date must be declared at the outset.

        * You may cancel up to the specified online ticketing deadline, and if so, depending on the payment engine/approach, the refund could have deductions for bank transfer fees.

        * You may postpone your ticket with a minimum of three business days' notice; thereafter, your lack of attendance at the booked date will be treated as a cancellation with zero refund (due to planning & venue costs for class numbers). Best efforts will be made to fit you into a later workshop. A postponement rescinds your notice period for a refund.

         * Electronic manuals and ProKanban.org assessment fees are included. Physical manuals are not provided.

Data protection, data privacy

       * Attendees may be asked to optionally consent to receive communications, e.g., follow-up email newsletters.

       * In order to get an assessment code from ProKanban.org, the trainer must submit their name and email address to ProKanban.org.

       * Reviews, testimonials, and feedback for improvement will be requested. Attendees may also be asked to provide feedback to ProKanban.org.
